Bradford County Benefits from Gas Industry

By Laurie Esposito Harley The first drilling rig was erected in Bradford County, PA in 2008. Today, over 800 wells extract natural gas from this rural river valley. According to Doug McLinko, the chairman of the county Board of Commissioners, the gas industry has not only provided local jobs, but has also caused the need for new businesses to be created. Local farmers and other landowners are receiving royalties for the gas wells, with a reported $400 million paid since 2008 in Bradford, County alone. “Everybody who wants to go to work in Bradford County is working right now,” says McLinko. ...
